Accessibility Guide for Edale House Bed and Breakfast

Welcome

Edale House is a period property converted to a small guest house located in Parkend in the heart of the Forest of Dean and close to the village shop, cafe, RSPB Nagshead Nature Reserve and a Steam Railway.
We offer 6 bedrooms with a number of flexible options including 3 twins, 3 doubles that could change to 1 twin and 5 doubles (including 2 super kings, 1 king, 2 doubles).
All rooms can be sold at single occupancy and 2 rooms are dog friendly (by arrangement).
We are unable to take children under 12.
We have a wheelchair ramp available for the main entrance steps but we make no further provision for disabled or less able guests.

Level Access
• The main entrance has 1 step. There is no lift and no ramp.
• There is level access from the main entrance to:
– Dining Table
– Rear Patio
– Garden area

Access with steps
• There are steps from the main entrance to:
– Breakfast Room
– Guest Lounge
– Residents Honesty Bar
– Front entrance/ smoking area

Bedrooms
• We have non-allergic bedding.

Level access bedrooms
• The route to the bedroom is 750mm wide, or more.
• The bedroom door is 750mm wide, or more.

Hearing
• The (bedroom) TVs have subtitles.

Visual
• The walls and the doors have high colour contrast.

General
• Staff are available 24 hours a day.
• We have emergency evacuation procedures for disabled visitors.

Travel by public transport
• You can get to Edale House Bed and Breakfast by bus and train.
• Buses can be accessed from either the Old Station or The Village Green. At the time of publishing the bus numbers are 786 (Thursdays, opposite the Cricket Green), 727 ( pick up by the Old Station). The bus stop is 0.01 miles / 1,266.6 km from Edale House Bed and Breakfast.
• The nearest train station is Lydney. The train station is 4.5 miles / 7.2 km from Edale House Bed and Breakfast.
• The Nearest Great Western Railway station is in Lydney – timetable to various destinations can be found on line at Trainline.com or visiting the station.

Travel by taxi
• You can get a taxi with CDS by calling 01594 834583. The taxi company has a wheelchair accessible vehicle.

Parking
• We have a car park. There are accessible parking spaces. Parking is free.
• There is a drop-off point at the main entrance. The drop-off point has a dropped kerb.
• From the parking to the main entrance, there are 2 steps. There is no ramp and no lift.
• Parking is just outside the main entrance with 2 steps to the entrance and 1 step over the threshold. A wheelchair ramp can be provided for this section. The parking area is gravelled and the path to the main entrance is paved.

Main entrance
• The door is 900mm wide.
• The main entrance has 1 steps.
• The main door is side hung and manual.
• We can accept wheelchairs via the main entrance and into the reception area giving access to our ground floor rooms.

• We have high colour contrast between walls and doorframes.

Bedrooms
• All bedrooms have windows.
• Bedrooms have ceiling lights, wall lights, bedside lamps, desk or table lamps, spot lights and natural daylight.
• Lights are LED. TVs have subtitles.
• All bedrooms are non-smoking.
• We have non-allergic bedding.
• All bedrooms have fitted carpets.
• We can move the bedroom furniture, to improve accessibility.

Places to eat and drink

Breakfast Room
• From the main entrance to the dining area, there are 2 steps. There is no lift and no ramp.
• To get to a table, there are no steps.
• If you need table service, staff can help you.
• There is no background music.
• We cater for sugar free (diabetic), vegetarian, gluten free (celiacs), lactose free (dairy free), nut free and vegan specific diets.

Guest Lounge
• From the main entrance to this area, there are 2 steps. There is no lift and no ramp.
• 1 small step to access the Guest Lounge

Residents’ Honesty Bar
• From the main entrance to this area, there are 2 steps. There is no lift and no ramp.
• 1 small step into the Guest Lounge and 1 standard step into the Honesty Bar

Getting around outside

Smoking

Front entrance/ smoking area
• From the main entrance to the smoking area, there is 1 step.
• Smoking area with wall mounted cigarette butt container is positioned just outside the main front door, there is a seating area.

Terrace

Rear Patio
• From the main entrance to this area, there is level access. The route is 800mm wide, or more.
• The entrance is 1000mm wide.
• To get to a table, there are no steps.
• The patio/ terrace is accessed from the side gate at the front of the property. access is given on request.

Garden area
• From the main entrance to this area, there is level access. The route is 760mm wide, or more. The entrance is 760mm wide.
• Access to the garden is via the main entrance to the side gate – the path is level with a very slight gradient.

Accessibility equipment
• None – we can advise the use of Mills Mobility based in Whitecroft (1.5 miles from Edale House) to hire mobility scooters or electric wheelchairs. For a list of more items. Call 01432 277000 or please go to https://www.millsmobilityaids.co.uk/shopmobility-and-hire.
• We have an area to charge mobility scooters and battery powered wheelchairs.
• We can accommodate a small electric scooter in either our downstairs cloakroom or in one of our storage areas.

Emergency evacuation procedures
• We have emergency evacuation procedures for disabled visitors.

• Staff are available 24 hours a day.
• Both proprietors are available 24hrs in an emergency.
